About Me
Hey, my name is Maha! I’m a Sudanese multidisciplinary artist born and raised in the Netherlands. I work across different mediums with the goal of telling stories, expressing myself, and using art to break down barriers and reshape how we understand the world.
What is Mahazine?
Mahazine started back in 2021 born out of frustration with the one-dimensional portrayal and stereotyping of Black Muslim women. Inspired by the Amsterdam based art collective and Feminist Zine "Pisswife" and the raw, DIY style of 70’s punk zines, I created Mahazine - it is unfiltered and unapologetic. It has evolved into a platform where I reclaim and center my own narrative. I present my identity the way I choose. The result is a creative explosion of punk, vibrant collages, interviews, stories, poetry, and photography. Through my art, I aim to reflect on society, raise awareness, and inspire people to look beyond their assumptions.
Mahazine 2
The second issue of Mahazine is all about "Art as a form of Resistance." It dives into how art can challenge the world around us, whether it’s through stories of identity, war, or culture. For me, creativity isn’t just self-expression. It’s a way to stand up, speak out, and make change happen.
My Vision
For me, Mahazine is more than just a zine. It’s a movement. It’s about embracing diversity, questioning assumptions, and celebrating who we really are. My goal is to inspire others to dig deeper, challenge the status quo, and find the courage to express themselves unapologetically.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support means everything to me. Whether you’re here to read, connect, or collaborate, you’re part of a growing community that values authenticity, creativity, and change.
Mahazine is fully independent and has no commercial aspirations.
